Le Maquillage Rituals Of A Fairy Princess

Updated: Mar 16, 2023

The moment I decided to romanticize my makeup regime like princesses do in Disney, I began to embody the essence of a Fairy Princess. What is a Fairy Princess you ask? It's more of a state of mind than a noun. It is not enough to say you're a Fairy Princess... you have to learn to BE one. I am going to give you the step-by-step morning makeup ritual which turned me into a Fairy Princess.

Usually, I like to save the best for last but when pink is involved, she trumps all. If pink were a person I'd like to think She would be a woman... one who was incredibly glamorous and sure of herself like Marilyn Monroe or Cleopatra. But... She'd have to be mixed with somebody Princess-esque and undeniably elegant like Grace Kelly and She'd certainly need a touch of sexiness and intrigue such as Michelle Pfeiffer or Candice Swanepoel. The colour pink brings me the greatest sense of excitement because of everything it stands for. It's the colour of love, it's completely feminine and utterly divine. So for me, incorporating the colour into my makeup ritual was essential. I must always be wearing pink lacy-lucy lingerie when applying ma maquillage. And I use staple products which have a non-negotiable requirement of being pink. They are: Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and Revelon sparkle pink lip glossier. And although my nails are everchanging, I usually can't bring myself to chose a colour other than pink. Whether it be a sparkly rosé ring finger, a blush love heart design, or a full set of baby pink... having pink acrylic nails which are extended truly makes me feel like a fairy princess.

Confession time: Growing up I HATED the way my thumbs looked.

I would envy the Princesses who eloquently displayed their long and lean fingers as they sung and danced. When I was first graced with the knowledge that acrylics existed, I knew that I too could become a princess. Considering this is a confession to my darling Shopaholics, I must admit the sadness I feel writing this. To know that I felt so ugly for my... hands???... at such a young age, truly shows the insecurities which are instilled in girls from early childhood through the mainstream media. I wish I could say that I now love my thumbs without acrylics but it's simply untrue. I hope that one day I can despise this part of myself a little less and I hope that us Shopaholics can defy the material world and be in LOVE with our purest and most authentic selves.

Woman's intuition is a superpower kept secret in the no-boys-allowed club. It is using this super power that you and I just know that Fairy Princesses smell of sweet caramel, sticky brown sugar, and vanilla malt. The very notion that a Fairy Princess could smell anything short of heavenly is lacking Shopaholic sophistication.

I spray two puffs of parfum on my left & right wrist, three puffs on my upper neck, and four puffs evenly distributed across my torso. Do Not. I repeat! Do. Not. Lather yourself in Eau De Parfum. It is sickening and no Fairy Princess completes any dainty task with greed or excessiveness.

ℬℴ𝒹𝓎 𝒲𝒶𝓈𝒽 & ℋ𝒶𝒾𝓇𝒸𝒶𝓇ℯ

The time I feel most like a Fairy Princess are in the moments before bed, knowing I have shampooed my hair, completed a nourishing hair masque, scrubbed my body clean and am about to crawl into freshly washed sheets. It's on a Sunday night after I've changed my weekly bedding, my room is tidy and I'm dressed in tiny Brandy Melville sweatshorts and a Peter Alexander sweet satin cami. But as you know my sweet Shopaholics, nothing good in life is free. I work for these moments and you must too.

I believe that the right body wash is practically liquid gold. Your body wash must be extremely potent and smell of something sweet and delcious. The aim isn't to smell fancy, you save that for the perfume. The aim is to smell like candy... it's Princess behaviour. My two favourite scents are raspberry candy & creamy vanilla and vanillic coconut & shea butter by Original Source.

When it comes to haircare, I must confess that I have an obscene amount of bad hair days. My hair is either too dry or too oily and there's little margin for error. Over the years, my eating disorder caused A LOT of hair loss which has been a hard reality to accept because I miss my days of endless, thick, caramel hair. No matter how bad a hair day, the most important step for revival is for it to be cleaned, towel pressed not shaken, and kept as straight as possible I.e not putting wet hair into buns. Many girls make what I believe to be a grand error in princess haircare... they value the scent of the hair over the quality. In saying that my Fairy Princess Shopaholics, chose effective hair products according to your hair type and not according to the scent. I use Pantene Pro-V Classic Clean Shampoo and Tresemme Conditioner Keratin Smooth and occasionally I will indugle in a Renee's She Soufflé Hair Mask by Lush Cosmetics.

Bubble Baths are essentially a playground for fairy princesses. As your baby hairs flap to the motion of bubbles floating and popping, your body soaks in birthday cake dough, and the salle de bains is infsued with banana bread aromas... your being will transform into a Fairy Princess trance. It's like drugs but So. Much. Better. It's the type of drugs in Alices 'Eat Me' cookies, the drugs in Tinkerbells fairy pixie dust, and the drugs in Winnie-The-Pooh's sticky, sweetgold honey. It's like drugs but it's kept just for you and me...

𝒩ℯ𝒶𝓉𝓃ℯ𝓈𝓈, ℳ𝒾𝓇𝓇ℴ𝓇𝓈, & ℱ𝓁ℴ𝓌ℯ𝓇𝓈

Dearest Shopaholics, your personal space is a reflection of the person you wish to be. In order to have your shit together, it's serious business when I order you to be neat. As you apply la maquillage, wash yourself, bathe, dress and spray yourself with perfume, it must all be done in a pristine and pink environment. Color organise your makeup (featuring your pink maquillage items), create seperate stations for each aspect of your routine (E.g. a station for perfume and a station for makeup brushes), and wipe surfaces with a sparkle finish weekly. I promise you that when your salle de bains looks dainty, pink and dreamy you will truly feel like a fairy princess who waltzes her way through her morning routine accompanied by singing bluebirds and violins.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold and the best form of revenge is self-confidence with a touch of self-obsession. I am a firm believer in mirrors. Fairy Princesses must know how to use a mirror correctly so let me tell you how, Dolls. Use a mirror to correct flaws but never use a mirror to criticize. Fairy Princesses know their worth and re-positioning a tiara is not the same as pulling their appearance apart in a mirror. In fact, I have a strong suspiscion that Fairy Princesses wink at themselves in the mirror and tell themselves that they are strong, beautiful and capable. Why leave a bathroom at a bathroom when it can become a 𝓿𝓪𝓷𝓲𝓽𝔂? Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Who's the sexiest of them all? Trick question, Fairy Princess. Never ask a question you already know the answer to. Ooh La La!

The wonderful thing about flowers is that no matter their shape, size, or color, they either smell good or like nothing but they never smell bad. Fairy princesses of the world... add flowers to your vanity because they remind you to always smell divine. The other wonderful thing about flowers is their ability to walk into a room and have everyone be delighted by their presence. All Fairy Princesses have this effect... you must always look like you're fresh off the runway. Whether it be wine stained Roses, butter tinted Daffodils, or ballet slipper pink infused Buttercups... ugly is not in their dictionary so why would it ever be in yours, Doll? Flowers remind you of your beauty which is why a touch of Peonies, a bouquet of Forget Me Nots or a single Cherry Blossom hanging from your ceiling or displayed on your sparkling clean countertop is the most critical component in embodying a Fairy Princess aura. Miranda Kerr summed up the Fairy Princess powers of flowers perfectly when she said:

“𝑨 𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒖𝒏𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂 𝒔𝒖𝒏𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒆. 𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒐.”

I now pronounce you Shopaholic and Fairy Princess. You may now kiss your pink, vanilla scented, bubbly, crystal clean, bouquet pervaded vanity!
