MA PRÉFÉRÉE LA MODE AESTHETICS
Shopaholics, saying you have aesthetic style is like saying your favourite genre is pop... the statement isn't inaccurate but it's ambiguous, unspecific and unpurposeful. To achieve an aesthetic style, you must be specific. I can recount many wasted paychecks over exquisite pieces that lacked direction because they didn't fit into an aesthetic. Let me help you find such direction by sharing ma préféré la mode aesthetics. I will be demonstrating what aesthetic la mode looks like, how to begin and where to buy its contents because you may just be one misguided step away from having a flawless la mode wardrobe.
Everything wrong in the world can be attributed to old money but Shopaholics, they say everything happens for a reason and I believe that that reason is the evolutionary old money aesthetic. Admittedly, it seems wrong to glamorise the fashion of spoiled children who have more money to their name moments after birth than most have in a lifetime but it doesn't hurt to bat an eye in the name of fashion every once in a while...Right Dolls? My love for the old money aesthetic began with old money icons like Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl. I've since completed my ivy league education with a master's in the old money colour scheme where brown equals beige and white equals cream. But my honours lie in the depths of tennis skirts, blouses, silk dresses, sunglasses and pearl necklaces.
To be eligible to play at Daddy's golf club where you can seduce Nate Archibald, a girl must own a short (but not too short), cream, pleated tennis skirt. They're to be worn at every event involving sun and late afternoon Shirly temples, typically sporting events but certainly not limited to! Blouses and sheath dresses are to be worn outside of the Tommy Hilfiger Polo infested gentleman clubs and are more suited to suit and tie gatherings involving charity balls, champagne and canapes. What starts with blouse should end with silk, beige & dainty buttons decoratively lining the sleeves. What starts with sheath dress should end in simplicity, with above-the-knee & thick shoulder straps to accompany the dress's straightness. The most precious old money commodities are accessories considering the very nature of old money la mode is elegance without effort. Remember, Dolls... you're too rich to care too much. Confession time, Shopaholics: Accessories make the outfit, not break it. Whether a string of pearls lacing your collar bones or big black sunglasses with gold detailing protect your prosperous eyes, you will be getting the mansion and driving the Cadillac if you adhere to my every word.
Perhaps I would've taken ballet classes a little more seriously if I'd known that being a ballerina entailed such prestige- their desirable elegance, sublime elongated movements and undoubtable skill makes for the most intriguing tripartite. My infatuation with the ballerina aesthetic feels criminal because it isn't merely an interest but a way of life. To master this aesthetic takes diligence and above all else, deep-rooted respect for one of the most gruelling art forms to exist. Dolls, I wouldn't put you up to anything I didn't think you could handle which is why I've made the complicated uncomplicated. Three items complete the ballerina aesthetic: ballet skirts, ballet flats & wrap cardigans. Ballet skirts are a favourable affair, a dainty phenomenon and feminine gold. Whether accompanied by bare legs in the springtime or transparent stockings come winter fall, ballet skirts are a fundamental requirement for the sweetest la mode outfit all year round.
Under any circumstance, a woman who indulges in the pleasure of painless footwear is forthcomingly elite for an intelligent woman is a woman who earns more, shops more and kisses more. All she needs to reach her fullest potential is a flat distinguished by its narrowness and completed with a bow. A shoe like such can be applauded for its ability to showcase the sexiest part of a woman's body: her legs. Short or long legs are complemented by the sweet shoe due to their non-discriminatory nature where short legs become cuter and long legs become leaner. Finally, I present to my Dolls the timeless wrap cardigan. It's an unmissable final layer of a delicate ballerina aesthetic la mode outfit. A wrap cardigan tells the world that you're helpless enough to feel a breeze but not so helpless that you're careless and forgot the importance of keeping warm. In the la mode world, a woman must never let herself be seen as careless because attention to detail is where the magic occurs. More often than not, the most renowned fashion statements have been uncomplicated. They take the world by storm because fashion designers rack their brains thinking 'How come I didn't come up with this sooner? It was right in front of me!'. Unlike cloaks and jackets, a wrap cardigan doesn't hide or overpower an outfit. This is fitting to the purpose considering we want to pay attention to detail, showcasing every intricacy of our ballerina aesthetic la mode outfit to the world!
My final préférée la mode aesthetic is the princess aesthetic... DUH! Achieving this aesthetic is all in the heart which was an easy task for me considering my family motto has always been that 'life is better in a tutu.' and considering being Ariel is my ultimate goal in life. But for those who don't truly obsess over princesses, desire their lives and find comfort in their iconic attire, this aesthetic just isn't for you, Doll. But if you're one of the lucky ones, you'll want to start with the basics: flowy dresses, silk ribbon tie-up heels, stockings and everything ruffle or frill. Although the movies showcase lavish ballgowns, it isn't practical for a girl wanting to be a princess at work, on the street or dining at lunch. We must settle for the next best, more practical option that embodies the same essence as the real deal. The key is to be remarkable, sweet Dolls. Because a woman in a flowing dress is a remarkable sight, especially one that has length yet accentuates one's figure. Typically, this effect is found in princess dresses that are tighter around the breast and flow outwards past the waist.
Having heels is mediocre. Having heels that tie around your dainty ankles is luxurious. Although it takes some adjustment, due to the extra security for your foot and extra pizazz for high-heels (which are already pizazz!), it won't take long before you completely replace your normal heels with princess heels. Confession time, Dolls: It is my firm belief that sheer stockings are one of the sexiest items a woman can own. The thigh-high hem that is commonly decorated with lace detailing and floral patterns reminds a prince of what's close without giving it away! They create elegance when worn underneath a princess dress, create sophistication when worn with a pencil skirt and create practicality when worn for a little protection for pretty princesses who want to stay warm and pretty during colder weather. The final element to the princess aesthetic is everything ruffle or frill and I am exaggerating when I say everything. Shopaholics, I confess to you that going overboard can break an outfit. You must allocate one element to ruffle/frill when wearing princess la mode. Anything exceeding one element, for example, wearing a ruffled dress as well as lace gloves with frills embroidered on the stitching will be overkill and you will look ridiculous. However, sticking to one element is usually safe and makes you look extravagant, bold and delicate: essential characteristics that Disney princesses always have.
Shopaholics, it seems that there is a new aesthetic weekly and honestly, even I have trouble keeping up. Some of them are outright far fetched, totally disgusting and Shopaholic by-law infringements. My favourite fashion aesthetics are fundamentally fashionable - going against the grains of fast fashion, tackiness and unoriginality. I know that you will find your true aesthetic if you follow in my footsteps. Use my post as a guide when buying the wardrobe of your chosen aesthetic- implicate material, style and colour scheme consistency. Whether you choose to be inherently rich, a ballerina, a princess or all three you will always be a pretty Shopaholic to me. Kisses,
COS x
