My Top Threes: Le Maquillage Edition

Updated: Mar 16, 2023

They say that good things come in threes, Dolls, and I am a firm believer in such a principle because it rarely fails me. If you read my first Blog Post for the final week of March, you would know that it's my parents' third Wedding Anniversary so it seemed to me that this topic was a sign! As it turns out, 3 is my lucky number and when two similarly good things happen to me, I am often blessed with a third. This is why I can guarantee this Post will be 'totally fetch!' (according to Gretchen Wiener). The latest TikTok trend involves people sharing their Top Three scents, drinks, brands, foods, songs, places etc. I was inspired to take my spin on the trend specific to makeup as it's a concise way of sharing my le maquillage essentials for my prettiest Dolls. My Le Maquillage Top Threes are scents, brands, colours, music & flowers. ♡

For my sweet sixteenth, all of my dreams came true... Except for my biggest crush breaking my heart. But that's a story for another time, Dolls. For five hours, I danced the night away with one hundred of my newest and oldest friends. And I did it in Wonderland Peony Eau De Parfum by Floral Street. I told the makeup Artist what I dreamed of smelling like as a sixteen-year-old. I said I wanted to smell sweet, yet sophisticated. She told me she knew just the scent. Its predominant essence is vanilla & fairy floss yet it's intertwined with lemon & peony. The makeup artist and I are still friends to this day.

At age eighteen, I had been in a happy, loving & committed relationship with Floral Street for two years. But like many relationships, despite its magnificence, I wanted to extend my branches and was ready to explore beyond the horizon. My Mother understood the assignment. I know my Mother's touch so well, yet she continues to amaze me with how well she knows me. We were at a salon together and the hairdresser smelt like a dream. Without a second thought, I demanded to know her scent and my Mother discreetly filed the hairdresser's response away. I'd practically forgotten about the scent myself until I was unwrapping the cloud-shaped wrapping on my day of birth. The scent is delightfully sweet... not in a sickly way like Britney Spears perfumes. As opposed to smelling of cheap burnt sugar, it invites whipped cream and praline scents. I still wear this perfume daily.

My final scent is iconic at worst and an understatement at best. It plagues Pinterest boards in the most pretty, sexy and aesthetic way. It's Miss Dior. The scent doesn't only come in a crystal bottle with a divine fine print... it also happens to be sinfully seductive. The lightness of the scent allows for a variety of wear... come springtime or summertime, come night or day, come shopping or fine dining this scent is limitless! Christian Dior adores floral comme Moi, resulting in finishing notes of elaborate floral bouquets.

Shopaholics, it's beyond difficult to be confined to three brands when Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Tom Ford, Hermès & Too Faced exist all in the same era! My selections will be exceptionally meticulous because my Dolls deserve the best of the best. Though Too Faced isn't as luxurious in the world of big billion-dollar names, I have never spent money that I didn't consider to be a successful investment. Questionability has never been affiliated with the brand... just my too faced shopping addiction, Dolls. I have invested in their bronzers, mascaras, lip injections, lip glosses & many skincare products. I have invested two times over in their bronzer, mascara & body creams. Le Chocolat is no doubt a sensory experience sent from the heavens above, however, the notion that it could be pressed into an applicatory face powder is absurd and thrilling all at once. Every morning I feel excited to smell the sweetness that cocoa has to offer as I get equally as delicious looking.

Dolls, I must choose Dior. Not only do his initials align with my precious Dolls, but his Eau De Parfum & le maquillage products are divine. The quality of packaging and the products themselves are consistently pristine and the long-lasting wear is without a doubt. Christian Dior holds a special place in my heart. When I first started my blog, my best friend who knows me too well knew that my brain was at the centre of the fashion multiverse. She continued to surprise me with a Christian Dior lipstick and Chanel eyeshadow palette which I could apply daily to get into my zone. To this day, I believe it has been one of the most thoughtful gifts I've received and every time I make my lips plump and cherry, I am reminded of her beautiful smile which grinned when she saw how much I adored her gift.

The final winner is perhaps a surprise for you, sexy! The final brand which is of utmost importance to me is Victoria's Secret. Although it's renowned for its lingerie, there is an entire aesthetic dedicated to Victoria's Secret angels and the feminine indulgence on offer. The success of Victoria's Secret's empire can be owed to it being built around an experience, not just a product. The experience, Dolls, goes something like this: As you apply le maquillage you're wearing silk pyjamas that smell divine (especially when accompanied by one of their signature fragrances), you feel a part of the Angel sisterhood as you embrace all things in sweet pink and you feel sexy as you're completely dolled up in black lace & pleated babydoll!

In previous posts, such as Eye Candy: Get Your Mind Out Of The Gutter & Le Maquillage Rituals Of A Fairy Princess, I comparatively advise the ideal le maquillage colour schemes for certain facial features and ethnic backgrounds. For example, red hair like Princess Anastasia pairs well with garnet red lipstick. Shopaholics, you are your own blank canvas and every day that you experiment with brands, types and textures is one day closer to perfecting the artwork that is you. It is only with time and variation that you will begin to know the colours and shades which complement your complexion. Similar to matching foundation, it is only the person who wears the makeup who can decide what will make them look the prettiest. For many years, I hadn't a clue. I wore cheap pharmacy mascara and $2 Chinese lipsticks my Grandma gave me 3 years ago, dabbed on some blush by Barbie with my fingers and called it a sunny day. Well, lucky for you, Dolls, my le maquillage knowledge has significantly improved.

Gloss is a staple item in my makeup collection. But not just any gloss... pink gloss. There are only two shades I ever buy and each shade deserves its own colour category. Magenta is slightly darker than a standard hot pink and makes for a more sophisticated finish. The depth of deep pink paired with my black hair creates a sexy & bold look. I typically use this shade for less spontaneous outings such as theatre nights or award ceremonies. For nights that invite a prettier exterior like drinks with the girls or birthday parties, I use a delightfully sweet cupcake pink. Paired with brunette hair, a girl is living her Bratz dream & a girl (like me!) with black hair is living her Adriana Lima in her Victoria's Secret era dream.

Red is perfectly versatile... bloodier reds work well as a nail colour, cherrier reds tint lips beautifully and rosier reds are delightful as blushes. Red is a magnificent colour considering its ability to flatter a variety of skin pigments & hair and eye colours. The most delicious red products are linked for you, my daring Dolls and all I can say is call triple zero because you're about to commit murder with triple nine lips like those! x

Perhaps it's a somewhat controversial thing to say but I must confess to you, Shopaholics, that it is a sin punishable by Dior death to indulge in a makeup routine that lacks musical accompaniment! The joy of le maquillage starts at precisely hip o'clock when the beat kicks in and you can't contain yourself. And you'd be ludicrous to think that your top three can be the same for any old day and le maquillage day. My love for classical music developed periodically. Unlike my immediate devotion to Brad Pitt, I warmed up to Mozart. My passion truly unfolded during my practice of Clair de Lune composed by Claude Debussy... I had never been so infatuated with a piece of music that hadn't a moment of lyrical input. Although Clair De Lune was my first classical night in shining armour, it provokes far too much emotion for the crack of dawn. I like to ease into the daylight with Je te l'aisserai des mots which translates to I will write you notes. Perhaps the notes Patrick Watson was referring to were musical notes or even spoken words, however, I believe they were written notes sealed in a love letter. Typically, this piece is the last on my le maquillage playlist because when applying perfume to my neck and wrists, I like to think I am sealing myself in a personal love letter written pour Moi, par Moi.

Dolls, confidence isn't always abundant. Sometimes confidence involves faking it 'till you make it. Whilst I like to believe that Pinterest boards & serious discussions with myself in the mirror work their magic, sometimes I need to hear the words from an external source. Your best friend and Mother can't be your only reliable source of complementation and I'm adamant that musical compliment-giving exists. I like to listen to soft rock songs which make me feel pretty, dainty & perfect exactly as I am (of course, with the addition of Yves Saint Laurent on my cheekbones!) Eyedress songs cease to amaze me with their immediate serotonin boost and Something About You does make me feel like the prettiest girl they've ever seen.

On the topic of soft rock, I simply had to feature a classic, Shopaholics. Rock 'n Roll is notorious for its effect on pretty girls with their overzealous sweet talk but in reality, I'm not complaining. I would marry Lou Reed just for his voice... I'm not joking. Although this goes against what I project on my Blog, even if he turned out to be a complete misogynistic arsehole, his voice singing me to sleep at night would be enough to eradicate my hypocrisy. Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side hypnotizes me every time I hear it. It's so smooth, cheeky and cool... the perfect triple threat for a morning boogy.

Flowers are without a doubt a critical element for le maquillage. Since the beginning of Eau De Parfum times, flowers have been a major component in the creation and advertisement of the divinely scented liquid. Also, floral terminology such as rose is often used to describe colour shades and palettes/ editions of certain le maquillage products. Currently, Shopaholics, the use of flowers in le maquillage is evident in the newest Mother's Day edition by Dior. The limited-edition titled ROUGE DIOR has a floral formula featuring rosewood, peony & pomegranate. Although the scent and colour of flowers in the product or title are certainly notable, the most splendid use of flowers for le maquillage is when a fresh bouquet showcases in your vanity. The incomparable scent combined with their beauty allows me to feel like I am living in Fantastia as the wealthy Princess of Monaco. So, Dolls, what are my three favourite bouquets to gaze at as I apply le maquillage you ask?

I must confess that I cannot decide if I prefer the flower or their name... Baby's-breath. They are as delicate as they sound and allow any large bouquet to immediately appear less daring and more graceful. I always feel like I am a small fairy in a fairy garden when I am in their presence. As a child, my grandparents owned a macadamia farm. I spent many evenings at the cusp of sunset in my bright pink gumboots inspecting Lilies for baby frogs. Their little green bodies would hide in between the gentle fold of the Lily leaf and my tiny fingers would place them in a clear plastic container with breathing holes for safekeeping. As much as I loved the frogs, the Lilies captivated me with their tenderness. They nurtured the frogs like a mother and since, I feel a sense of protection, love & warmth in the presence of Lilies. Perhaps the most romantic flower that exists is a rose. Recently, the last two bouquets which I've had greeting me post-slumber and during-le-maquillage have been rouge & rose stained roses. They are timeless and I cannot express a single negative emotion towards the little pockets of love.

Darling Dolls, there you have it! My top three confessions for each le maquillage essential process. What are your top three's? Having to confine the most pleasurable aspects of my princess-living life to just three elements per category was a challenge. However, I endeavoured to make your princess-living life more possible and pretty in doing so. In a material world, we are susceptible to greediness, so limiting our desires and prioritising materials we love can help eradicate excessiveness and impulse buying. As a result, we can work towards constructing a material world metaverse that places value and significance upon our all-time favourite commodities. It's not about reducing shopping, Shopaholics, it's about maximizing spending. See you next week, sweet Dolls!
