MY TIMELESS LE MAQUILLAGE ROUTINE

Over the years, experimenting with my le maquillage routine has brought me creative joy. I've subtracted elements, added steps and implemented variety. Yet it's this routine that has lent itself as failproof, delivering every time. It's what I always come back to, Dolls. This is my timeless le maquillage routine.

ALL ABOUT THAT BASS

  1. Shopaholics, when you have a perfect base, you have everything. It's taken me years to master my base. Those around me have always seemed to use liquid foundation but liquid foundation and my skin are sworn enemies. It's because my natural skin needs enhancing, not covering up. My skin, naturally, is pimple-free, glowing and smooth so using foundation is like adding salt to the sea: Counterintuitive. Imagine adding a second face to the one pre-existing. The result is a surface thicker and clunkier than it was to begin. I needed the foundation to act as a colour-corrected, soft base minus the texture. So when I heard about an alternate form of foundation, I rolled over in my foundation-less grave. Powdered foundation will become the holy grail for you that it has become for me if you share this same shopaholic conundrum. For day-to-day wear, I simply use my biggest makeup brush and apply 2-3 even coats. For special events such as a night out, I lightly coat my makeup brush in a shallow puddle of water. This acts as an ultra-thin liquid foundation, the type impossible to buy in a liquid foundation form. It's perfect!

  2. After years of learning to cope without foundation, I mastered the art of contouring. It was the only thing I could use that acted as a base for applying blushes, highlighters and eye shadows. I never truly bonded with beauty blenders as I found it difficult to properly blend out the thickness that is creamed contour. Hence, I stuck to cream bronzer as my sole source of a cream-based contour and opted for powdered contour for the rest of my contouring routine. Though the powder is easier to use, I find that the creams are longer-lasting. I wanted to suck it up for one element due to its longevity and considering I use the largest quanityt of bronzer, I chose that! The cream bronzing contour I use is in the shade medium.

  3. Over the years, my dark eye circles have only gotten darker. So it's unlikely I go a day without using my concealer stick. If I'm in a rush and don't have time to perfect my base, I always make time to conceal. In my Shopaholic opinion, if you're using concealer for acne and pimples, it should be colour matching to your skin tone, however, if you're like me and using it for the darkest part of your face, I recommend choosing a concealer shade that's quite a bit lighter than your skin tone!

SPRINKLES ON TOP, PLEAASSSEEEE!

The purpose of my timeless routine is to expect perfection every time, for every occasion, for every outfit. Although I love experimenting with glittery eyeshadows and shades that colour-coordinate with my outfits, I can never seem to get it perfect like my favourite nude blend does. I use any nude shade on my Morphe palette or my Madison Beer palette and I always feel elegant. In bestowing brown eyes, having a warm nude shadow pulls all of my good features together.

I'm an utter sucker for mascara. I tried to be a fake eyelash lover like my friends. But no matter how much I've tried convincing myself over the years, I can't stand how fake eyelashes feel. I truly wish I was a fake lash lover but some romances are simply not supposed to be, Dolls. I'll forever envy those who don't feel like clawing off their extensions from the moment they're stuck on. I had to learn to up my lash game so that I didn't look lash-naked next to my friends. My secret, Dolls? For my timeless routine, I apply two coats of mascara and not just any mascara, but an elongating one. Although it is expensive, the most foolproof, beautiful, doll-like mascara I've ever owned is by Dior. And when I'm really going for gold, I apply a light layer to my bottom lashes. Remember, Shopaholics, I confess to you but that doesn't mean you need to confess our little secret to others. So from one Shopaholic to another... Shhhh ;)

I feel like I'm standing in front of you all naked in sharing this routine. I've spent so many years studying, learning and evolving what to me, is perfection. I hope, more than anything, that we can bond over a mutual love of my timeless le maquillage routine.

Kisses,
