Put A SPRING In Your Step!

Shopaholics, it's officially the first day of Spring and a Doll never misses an opportunity to address the seasonal la mode! After three months of enduring Winter weather, finding that spring in your step isn't too difficult a task. Putting a spring in your step isn't just about the clothes you wear, Dolls... it's about finding pleasure in the delightful scent of blooming flowers, the sight of newborn baby birds and remembering what the sun feels like as it kisses our skin. Luckily, I have assembled the perfect guide to making your spring la mode put that special spring in your step, Dolls!
The colours of spring la mode are refreshing after a season where black, white and brown plague the fashion scene. Spring fashion invites colour in its most vibrant forms. But a Shopaholic knows that an overload of colours and using colours without their correctly complimenting colours is a total la mode disaster! Thank God (who is a woman!) that my guide narrows it down, sweet Dolls.
Yellow
In my opinion, yellow means spring. It's the colour of sunflowers, the sun and the springtime meadows filled with thousands of daisies. There is something about a woman wearing a long, flowing yellow dress with ruffled spaghetti straps as she sips on un cafe au lait at a Parisian bakery, attends a picnic date with a romantic lover on the top of a hill or has Sunday brunch with her family over oysters, buttered bread rolls and Sauvignon Blanc.
Pink
Obviously, Shopaholics, if pink is in season then I'm going to be preaching pink all day, every day. Spring has a crucial element of love in the air as precious bunnies, beavers & bears welcome their newborns into their animal families. Pink embodies this element of love perfectly. Exploring pink in spring fashion curates an outfit that is utterly sweet & divinely feminine. I've been obsessed with tight-fitted tweed pencil dresses in baby pink that can be dressed up with pumps or dressed down with strap sandals.
White
There is something about wearing white la mode on a brisk spring day that screams elegance & grace. And that something is due to white's ability to make a Doll look clean, fresh, radiant & peaceful. Personally, I think that white corsets should be a staple in spring. Corsets have a tight fixture and provide little warmth which is why pairing them with a warmer bottom such as jeans or maxi skirts works splendously for a warm spring day with a brisk breeze.
Accessories
Springtime relishes in the use of accessories, Shopaholics. Accessories are a prime opportunity to add a pop of spring colour or a symbol of it. First things first are sunglasses and sunhats and it's critical that they're oversized. You Dolls know that I love a little (okay, a lot of!) drama. The sun is slowly remembering its place in the world as springtime rolls around and taking a dramatic la mode stance with black and gold Chanel shades or a straw wide brim in cream is the epitome of a statement.
What could be more spring than acrylics that have sweet little daisies painted onto colourful french tips? You can experiment with shades of pink, peachy orange or lilac on the tips whilst adding flowers in a pairing colour. For example, Dolls, we have bubblegum pink tips complemented with daffodil yellow, white tips complemented with lilac or sunburnt orange complemented with cream.
Speaking of sweet, I believe the sweetest hairstyle to be the nostalgic hairstyle that is worn by little girls all over the world: plaits! Your choice of forms include french, inside-out, fishtail or dutch plaits... all uniquely pretty and equally efficient at keeping free hair out of harm's way in the spring breeze. But to make this hairstyle as sweet as can be, a braid can be completed in any of its forms with a dainty white bow woven into the elastic.
Shopaholics, the final step to putting a spring in your step is an optional but highly recommended aspect of my guide. Flowers are at the core of the season and I believe that one of the most beautiful sights of spring is people flaunting their la mode as they pick up fresh bouquets of what's blooming. Whether it's bundled up on arrival at Sunday markets or you're on your way to freshly pick them at your local park, completing your outfit has never looked so good, made you smell so good or made you feel so good than the stems of tulips, daisies & daffodils wrapped in your freshly manicured hands!
