The Bride To Be
My darling Dolls, 'tis the final month of the extended wedding season (September to May) and to celebrate the finale of what is perhaps the most fashion orientated ceremonies, COS has chosen to uncover how you can make the season last all year round, with or without a lover to say 'I do' too. Bridal fashion is not only historic but culturally unique, allowing for an array of international la mode that is exquisitely diverse, elegant and detailed. Upon drawing from bridal trends and origins, I've made it possible to implicate the style into daily use. Are you ready to become a pretty princess Monday through Sunday, Shopaholics? Because I most certainly am.
They talk about outfits being from head to toe but to leave the toe last grandly underestimates its importance. The versatility of wedding shoes allows a Shopaholic to wear princess attire in a more socially acceptable fashion... wearing a flawless white gown down Main street may not have been so uncommon in Bridgerton but in this day and age, it is going to look slightly peculiar. I present to my Dolls what I believe to be the most princess-Esque slippers a woman can indulge in.
Pretty Dolls, despite my recent Shopaholic rant, dressing from head to toe is a mentionable saying in the fashion verse so allow me to add princess fairy dust to your golden locks! The first and foremost mentionable hairpiece is the traditional Nigerian headwrap. When the headwrap, called 'Gele', is worn to the right, it symbolises that a woman is married. My favourite aspect of the Nigerian la mode is the celebration of colour, steering away from the Western tradition of white established by Queen Victoria's marriage to Prince Albert. Confession time, Dolls: Shopaholic by-laws clearly state that non-indigenous people wearing 'Gele's' is cultural appropriation but la mode can always invite colour to dance in our locks in non-offensive manners. Think belle blue hair bows and silk hair wraps with paisley patterns. The final puff of pixie dust comes in its purest form- gold. A hair clip is an ample addition to a bride's special day, adding elegance oh, so subtly, yet oh, so effectively. Take this sweet romantic couple for instance who quite literally have hearts of gold...
Diamonds are a girl's best friend, Dolls and although Marilyn first sang the phrase, it was De Beers who first successfully revolutionised the wedding ring through the historical advertising phrase 'A diamond is forever.' The gemstone undoubtedly enhances any outfit from stylish to one that is exceptional. Despite the ambitious price tag, diamonds don't have to be the ambitious element of your outfit. Remember that beauty often resides in the nuances of life. Dolls, I always encourage you to create your future and if you don't desire a diamond ring, luckily diamonds have been crafted into necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
The finale you've all been waiting for... the gown is the prizest possession of any bride to be.
Ines Di Santo, a distinguished wedding dressmaker for 3 decades trailblazed the 2022 wedding scene with his feature of feathers on the 'MARTINA' dress in his wedding couture collection. To truly make the wedding season last year-round, it's pivotal to observe trends and listen to current la mode gossip. My meticulous study notes indicate that feathers, though daring, are of positive goss this season and a rise in brides wearing them is to be expected. To administer our newly found education into our princess wardrobes, feather handbags, tops and lingerie are just the beginning. Some samples of feather la mode are indicated in the collage below but I'm curious... What will your flight of choice be, Dolls (or should I say doves?)
It's official Shopaholics, you are a diamond and feather bedazzled princess from head to toe but your most notable fashion stance is that looking as beautiful as a bride to be was accomplished without the necessity of a lover. The only lover you truly have forever is yourself, Dolls, so if you like it, put your own 6-carat ring on it STAT!
Kisses,
COS x
