The Epitome of the Perfect Valentine.
Updated: Feb 5, 2023
Roses are red, violets are blue, I know the steps to becoming the perfect Valentine, boo. Dolls, it's officially the 1st of February and in 14 days, you'll either be Lady, sharing a strand of spaghetti and meatballs at a 5-star restaurant with The Tramp or you'll be Bridgette, sharing a tub of Ben & Jerry's with yourself, a pool of mascara-stained, snot infused tissues and your pre-recording of The Titanic. No matter who you chose to spend your Valentine's Day with, Dolls, at the end of the day, you are your forever Valentine. This is why you must look the part, even if it's a deception of reality. Everyone deserves to celebrate the most romantic time of the year, my sweet Shopaholics.
What starts with N and ends in sweet Valentine's perfection? Nails, Dolls! Nothing gets my Shopaholic juices flowing like a mani-pedi that compliments and accentuates my to-die-for alluring, sexy, Valentine-delicious outfit! What's critical, is that your mani is a block colour with a touch of flare. The Valentine's Day colour scheme is pink and red, Dolls. These are bold, in-your-face colours and therefore, the addition of design, new colours or French manicures will create contradictions and unwanted complexities. A small love heart on one or two fingers is adorable and encouraged, but don't overindulge and get carried away.
Shopaholics, the outfit you choose for your Valentine's Day rendezvous is perhaps the most critical aspect in looking the part of the perfect Valentine. You must find the perfect balance of combining authenticity with popularity, flare with simplicity and intrigue with romance. It is true, Dolls, that I am biased when vouching for pink... It is my way of life, the colour of my aura and the centrepiece of all of my important decisions after all. But, I promise that it's merely a fact that pink and red will be the pinnacles of the perfect Valentine's Day outfit. Often, I am flexible with colours, recommending that you carefully, yet confidently colour match, combine or use. But, when endeavouring to be the perfect Valentine, there is no room for any la mode colour other than pink or red. If you're attempting to blow a longstanding hubby away, you cannot go wrong with a gorgeous gown... Anything long and expensive that hugs your body in all of the right places will suffice. Additionally, when testing the waters of a thrilling, new prince charming, a shorter dress with frills and lace will achieve a Valentine's Day look that is more dainty, sweet and cutesy.
Alternatively, if a dress isn't your la mode of choice, then I recommend a pant and top set. It can be entirely darling when done correctly. Sets are a statement that says 'I'm confident, fun, out there, spontaneous and charming.' In my opinion, a set that involves a bottom layer and a top layer is highly underrated on the dating scene. Your Valentine's Day bottom layer should be a mini skirt or a tight-fitting, thigh-hugging pair of long pants. Skirts should be a block colour in the shade of baby pink, hot pink or cherry red. The pants have no room to be any colour other than white on Valentine's Day because an alternative colour will be contradictory to your top which must be pink or red. If you don't adhere to this confession, Dolls, you'll be bestowing a not-so-sweet-valentines-look, instead appearing cocky, edgy and wild. The top is what makes or breaks the Valentine's Day set option so listen carefully, Shopaholics. The top must be risqué, yet elegant. Anything sheer that is glittering with sparkly embellishments, decorated with sewn-on love hearts or detailed with lace is sure to be bewildering in all of the best ways for your Prince/Princess Charming.
Finally, Dolls, it's time to decorate that pretty face of yours! After all, the person you're courting will be gazing at it all evening.
It's compulsory to decorate it perfectly!
There is zero room for error, Dolls. If you haven't heard of Jenny Kee, your Jenny Kee-less days are now over! Considering that Valentine's Day features the boldest of colours, I've left the demanding task of pairing and including colour for your Valentine's Day le maquillage to the colour expert herself. Lips are arguably your most important feature on Lover's Day...If you want a goodnights kiss, Dolls, you better make your lips the most kissable lips your date has ever seen! Kee's go-to lips are a masterpiece and masterpieces take time, TLC and attention to detail.
Firstly, prime your smoochers with lip primer so that you're working with a plain and wrinkle-absent surface.
Next, carefully appliqué your lipstick and remember, Dolls, for the night of your dreams you want to go big or go home. So, don't be afraid of full red lips or glossy outlined marshmallow-pink lips.
Finally, Dolls, add a matte layer of eyeshadow or blush that is the same colour as your lipstick with an eyeshadow brush and watch your lips' potency factor multiply by 100!
Finding the blush and eyeshadow that perfectly pairs with your now, perfect lips is a gruelling task. A tip to avoid disaster is a tip that I've taken from 'MAKING IT UP' (A.K.A What I consider to be my holy grail and Shopaholic Bible.)
It involves taking a voluminous face brush and dabbing it across your newly applied lips for colour transfer.
Then, you powder the perfect colour that's now stained on your brush onto the apples of your cheeks, upper cheekbones and lids of your eyes.
Wow, Doll, you truly look like the epitome of the Perfect Valentine!
The final step in my Shopaholic Guide to becoming the perfect Valentine is an optional step. However, if you're committed to becoming the most perfect valentine, it's a step that you must consider and ponder to great lengths. Jewellery is your latest conundrum, Shopaholics. If you choose to wear jewellery, you'll without a doubt take your outfit to another level. After all, diamonds are a girl's best friend. However, I believe it to be equally strategic to avoid jewellery altogether on Valentine's Day.
It's a shocking concept, I know! But hear me out, Dolls...
Avoiding jewellery or abstaining entirely is a statement that gives a not-so-subtle hint that you’re undoubtedly deserving of and expecting a Valentine's Day gift from a certain someone called Tiffany, Pandora or Chanel. So, Dolls, it's up to you whether you'll play it safe or take a leap of faith. What would I do? That's a secret I'll confess to my Valentine and my Valentine alone, Dolls.
Kisses,
