The European Summer Aesthetic

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

Oh, Shopaholics, to experience a European summer is to have lived. The aesthetic of a midsummer breeze drying off salty water droplets on newly olive skin, purchasing ripe peaches from fruit stands in Athens and getting lost in foreign cities whilst riding pastel mopeds is the Shopaholic dream. In Australia, Winter is among us, meaning that the lucky ones have invested in luxurious holidays to Europe where they are indulging in the European summer aesthetic. For those who aren't so fortunate and are experiencing the harsh breezes, winds and storms, we can only indulge in the far-away concept of a European summer. Keep reading to live vicariously through the friends you are so rightfully envious of so that we can remain envious in numbers!

The European summer aesthetic cannot begin without a plane ticket! And the decision of where to go will prove daunting. I believe that for a true European summer vacation to take place, exploration of many countries, cities and towns, not just one, is required. My dream European destinations to visit to carry out the European summer aesthetic are:

  • France: Nice, Marseille

  • Greece: Santorini, Athens

  • Italy: Venice, Rome

  • Spain: Valencia, Barcelona

After you've chosen the location, it's your opportunity to live out the European summer aesthetic. The aesthetic involves sunbaking topless on hidden beaches, diving off luxurious boats, roaming through ancient cities whilst eating strawberry gelato, snorkelling with seahorses and turtles, dining for lunch at 4 pm at local Italian restaurants and selecting summer fruits from fruit stands constructed out of an umbrella, handwritten signs and straw baskets.

As you roam the exquisite streets of foreign cities, you mustn't let your la mode stop neck-down. Our approach to la mode at COS is a full circle... We do not neglect any aspect of an outfit and an outfit is certainly made by its accompanying hairstyle. I don't believe in being excessively extravagant unless it's a requirement and on a scorching Venetian summer's day, I believe simplicity is a virtue. There are only two hairstyles that I deem to be a la mode necessity: free raining salty locks or sweet plaits.

I saved the best aspect of the European summer aesthetic la mode until last, Shopaholics: Swimsuits! It is the heavenly time of year that calls for the most exposing la mode, apart from lingerie. Except, everyone gets to wear swimsuits publicly, displaying their skin to the sexy Italian locals and dreamy Spanish suitors. Normally, I like providing my Shopaholics with cost-conscious options. However, a swimsuit is worn for one annual season alone proving it to be a special occasion worth investing in. A good bikini lasts a lifetime and it's a la mode item that deserves durability and quality. My two favourite bikini brands are provided. I hold the firm belief that all partakers in the European summer aesthetic must own two swimsuit staples in their closets. This involves a simple white one-piece, preferably without straps, and an ocean blue two-piece.

Their designs pair perfectly with the European summer aesthetic with their features of dainty bows, frills & ruffles.

Their designs offer sheerness and glitter, making them the perfect aesthetic for a spontaneous late-night rendezvous on a boat party at Midnight in Santorini.

Shopaholics, even if you aren't living out the Shopaholic dream as of present, you can surely say that when the time comes you will be well prepared. The European summer aesthetic is an aesthetic that every Doll must experience for it is too breathtaking, enriching and glamorous to miss.

Kisses & Hugs,

Cos xo
