THE PRINCESS BEDROOM

Updated: Mar 21

I have completely transformed my bedroom into one (that I know for certain!) only a princess could bestow. It's timeless, dainty and elegant, aka the three golden rules of any news relating to a princess. I'm here to tell you, Dolls, that you don't have to be married to a prince to be a princess. Just read my blog, pay close attention and do as I say! Being a visual learner, I knew I'd be dissatisfied if I left the princess bedroom to my imagination alone. I needed a visual cue to spur my inspiration, guiding me in achieving my ultimate princess bedroom goal. So, being the Shopaholic I am, I did my shopping research. Pinterest was my best friend. Luckily for you, I've done all of the studying so you don't have to, leaving you with everything you'll need and want to know in one place. Dive in Princess Shopaholics!

Every princess bedroom needs, and I mean NEEDS, a mirror. Mirrors make any space appear bigger. Bigger bedrooms scream wealth, luxury and royalty. But simply any mirror will not do. Just as larger mirrors are better, so are larger mirrors. If there's one element of your princess bedroom to go to town on size-wise, the mirror is it. Though more expensive, they tend to have more intricate frames etched with notably more exquisite details, bringing the theme of royalty to life. I spent two weeks scouring the internet for the biggest, most beautiful mirrors for the best price. 'eBay' had some divine options. However, it became apparent that the delivery to my area would be far too complex. Though, for you Dolls, I sincerely recommend it as a valuable place to source oversized, valuable, vintage mirrors for surprisingly inviting prices. I found my mirror during a sale which felt like a gift from the Princess Goddesses themselves. However, even the OG price was fairly sensible. So, even if you aren't as lucky to score a sale, it's worth me spilling the goss that Early Settler had my dream mirror in the colour 'Champagne' for a mere $139.

Can any princess truly call themself a princess if they do not own their personal vanity? Vanities are critical to the princess bedroom, not because of the item itself, but because of what the item represents: Self-care, beauty & desire.

I poured my princess blood, sweat & tears into assembling my vanity and it was worth every drop.

Princesses are of course fussed over and adored but undoubtedly, princesses bear characteristics of strength, capability and power. Though it may sound strange, it was important to me that my princess bedroom was laced with these characteristics so that it didn't just look like I had a princess bedroom but felt like it represented the princess I wanted to be. I searched for a vanity that was small enough to be classified as dainty, but big enough that it would have the ability to serve its predominant purpose: a proper storage and functionality place for which I could apply my Updated Le Maquillage Routine: Perfect. Pretty. Princess.

It is of utmost importance that a princess has the perfect bed because all true princesses require beauty sleep. After all, it takes sweet, deep, consistent rest to dedicate your days to being perfect in every way. The foundation is fundamental, Dolls, so your first step is sourcing a princess bedhead. I found the best search engine to identify the products I had my heart set on to be 'Upholstered Princess Bedhead'. I narrowed my findings down to the bedheads that weren't constructed solely by gold-plated metal bars because I think it's important for a princess to have the viable option of leaning against a bedhead that is comfortable upon reading princess books or watching Disney films on restless nights. This is why I selected a bedhead constructed using polyester upholstery, high-density foam padding and dust cloth backing.

Upholstered bedheads are certainly a statement feature that will accentuate your bedroom to one of a princess nature. However, if you have the time, money and energy to accentuate the accentuated, do what I did, because Dolls, is it ever possible to go overboard with being a princess? You have one of two options at this point. Option number 1 is to invest in a four-poster bed. If you chose option number 1, it's simply a fact that accompanying elegant, flowing, white tie-up curtains are a compulsory inclusion. Option number 2 is a more subtle declaration of your princess-ness, but it's undeniably no less significant. It's also a considerably cheaper decoration, perfect for princesses on a budget. A mosquito net has previously been associated with younger girls' bedrooms but I've decided to reinvent that assumption by challenging it and in my opinion, it's been a success. Amazon sells mosquito nets for a mere $35.11. PS. If you choose option number 2, then you'll be like me!

Now that you've decorated your chambers, it's time to make sure you can indulge accordingly.

Although aesthetics are essential, they're negligible if they're unusable.

To look beautiful, it must also feel beautiful. It's only possible to enjoy your bedroom if your bedding is of quality. I made the mistake of believing that quality bedding was only for the richest of the rich. And if you share my mistake, luckily for both of us, I've already done the deep dive on the internet proving us wrong. The solution, Dolls, is bamboo cotton. Bamboo cotton bedding is on the cheaper side of the bedding market yet expensive enough that the fibres won't fall apart after one washing cycle. Bamboo cotton is renowned for its to-die-for softness and when I spent my first night in my new bedding, I immediately understood how it achieved such a glowing reputation. This element of the princess bedroom had the second longest search time considering there is such a big market for bamboo sheets. By the end, it felt as though I'd read every single review for every single company that produced 100% bamboo cotton sheets. Attached is the link for the best-rated review for the most reasonable price. Thank me later, Dolls!

For obvious reasons, princesses savour the use of accessories, ornamentation and embellishment. However, I think it's important to note that it is entirely too common to go overboard in this field and be left with a bedroom that appears cheap, tacky and inauthentic (undesirable to say the least!) This is why I used the following seeking and sourcing process:

STEP #1: I was ruthless in what photos would make the cut to enter my precious Pinterest folder to make the ultimate process of elimination faster and easier. This folder held all of the ideas that fit the princess bedroom brief.

STEP #2: I forced myself to select only one lucky contestant as the winner to prevent the undesired look.

What I chose, Dolls, were several baby pink flowers tied to the ends of singular strands of glitter-coated pink ribbon, that hang from the ceiling by clear, invisible, miniature hooks.

P.S Dolls, Some other ideas that made a close-second were:

I've provided what resources I believe will almost guarantee that your time, money and devotion grant you the bedroom you thought could only exist in your wildest dreams. I didn't believe it would happen to me. But, it has! And like my Mum said: 'This is your forever bedroom.'

Kisses,

COS x
